Thanks to our group of talented musicians led by Jim Bossler in the Café, members and friends of HCC got to enjoy an extensive set list of great 80’s songs this Fall. The outreach event followed a progression of music that explained the human condition, highlighting our need for something more- something greater than ourselves.
Here are a couple videos from the evening:
This was a text animation I did to explain the first “set” – It’s all about me. It’s really the first of it’s kind that I’ve done, so it’s pretty simplistic. If you haven’t searched youtube for Kinetic Typography yet, you should! There’s some great stuff out there!
Here’s a clip from the very end of the night, on the last song. As I went to a wide shot to show all the lighting going crazy, our Audio Director Jason Brown, pushed the gain and I’m pretty sure the house got up to AT LEAST 110 dB. The low end was so loud at one point, our mounted wide shot camera was shaking like crazy.
This blog post will be 60% for awesomeness, and 40% for having something else on here besides me destroying “Franken-Donkey”
As our blog states, right on the top of the page- “If we go unmentioned, then we have done our job.“
We all know it’s our job to remain unseen and in the shadows, hidden from society and recognition. When our presence becomes obvious though… it forces what I call,
The Pity Shout Out. Do you know what I’m speaking of? It’s when the next slide doesn’t come up…and in the awkward pause, the speaker thanks the tech crew for their expertise and assures the audience that they truly are, trying their best. Or better yet, as feedback screams in the house causing near panic…. the vocalist then says something to the effect of “Alright everybody, give it up for our audio guys up there, come on!” and leads the mass into clapping, hoping to drown out anymore wailing high pitches. You really have to feel bad for the audio guys though…or really anyone who is in the Front of House booth…. As people look back to determine why things are going so horribly, whether it be the volume, or the wrong slide, or even the temperature of the room, it’s definitely that guys fault.
Of course, really we can’t blame them for this, we would probably do the same thing in their shoes. This though, is why we must be the elite, the A-Team, the best of the best… who in fact are… trying their best.
Here’s a little clip from a concert we had here not too long ago with FFH. This is certainly not example of the ordinary Media Shout Out, but we sure found it pretty hilarious. Stealth was probably not something we were maintaining very well that night, but it ended in a light-hearted bonding moment between one of our camera guys, and the singer in FFH… This is probably a good time to warn performers… once you have made “the shout out,” stealth is then thrown out the window entirely, for the Unmentioned… have now been mentioned, and there is NO turning back.
So – I was on Ben’s computer looking up a file on the editing Mac and I came across this video. I’m not sure who taped it for him…maybe his wife or someone else as the church. Either way – he may be small, but I wouldn’t mess with him after seeing this video.
If you had not already heard, we had a concert at HCC this weekend starring Big Daddy Weave. If you haven’t heard of him, I know the name is a little funky… but the band is great and the guys are hilarious.
We set up a camera to record a time-lapse of the entire set up, show, and tear down.
Below is a clip that is completely un-cut, un edited, right off the recorder. I would have put some music under it but it’s 1:30 in the morning right now and I’m in need of sleep. The clip is ONLY 2 MINUTES LONG! That’s over 12 hours of content packed into two minutes (10am-12am), so take a couple minutes of your day and watch this cool clip!
Hint: If you’re watching closely, you can see Zac making a face at the camera, you can also see a point in the “pre-show” where Power Point froze on a slide. The set up and tear down are probably the best parts to watch!!!
Don’t worry! I still have plenty of videos rolling in that I can’t wait to share with all of you… however, I thought it would be fun to go a back a little bit and take a brief look at some of the hard work and effort we put into… umm…doing stupid stuff…with old speakers… in the name of science and experimentation!
Not sure who’s out there checking out our production blog at this time, I hope the number will continue to grow these next few months as I will continue to bring all of you the latest and greatest-
For any faithful followers at this time, I’ll give you a little sneak peek at some of our graphics for the new Easter series starting this Sunday. The first week is Easter Through the Eyes of Barabbas, Joe Coffey will also speak on Easter through the eyes of Pilot, Judas, and Peter. It’s going to be awesome I’m sure!
You can click these to view in full-
Props to Jonathan Claytor for providing this awesome content. The last lower third there was my original idea, but after talking things through we kind of got away from that….. Actually we never even talked about it…. I don’t know, I thought it tied in with Easter pretty well, don’t you? :p
P.S. the lamb you see in the center of the full graphic ties in with the “sacrifice” associated with Barabbas. During the week of Pilot there will be a Roman-esk helmet, for Peter a rooster, and for Judas, maybe silver(?) Feel free to give some input…
Welcome back to the HCC Productions blog, I hope to be posting videos and other news here from week-to-week, so make sure to check back every now and then!
Probably most of you know all about the Christmas concerts held every year here at Hudson Community Chapel. A lot of hard work from a lot of wonderful people always proves to make a very impressive and exciting product. We had a lot of fun this year especially, and I wanted to give a quick look at some of the things that went on behind the scenes. I’ve got everything in here from the very first meetings we had to discuss the production, to the construction, to the night of the concert. I didn’t do a lot of editing with this, it’s pretty straight forward, but I hope you still get some laughs!
After much consideration, Zac has given me access to using the blog. The idea being that hopefully I can contribute stories, videos, and thoughts, about all the stuff going on here throughout the week…and believe me, when most of your life is spent from behind a video camera, one tends to capture some interesting things! Well little does Zac know…my plans for blog domination are now underway, and under my rule- shock. awe. and pure hilarity.- will be our sustentation.
To kick things off, I have a little bit of everything mixed in for you. In case you haven’t heard about this week’s events in the fish tank, I have a little clip for ya!
The past 6 days of my life have been crazy busy. Monday thur Thursday, I freelanced every evening up in Cleveland doing some fun corporate gigs. Alot of work but fun. During the day we have been planning for the weekend and installing new audio and video for the Aurora Campus.
This weekend we are launching our first sermon via video at that campus. We have a new 16×9 HD projector along with a complete new d&bspeakers and Yamaha LS-9 digital console. Alot fun stuff. Some where between those two events I have found a few hours each night to sleep.
I’m not gonna lie – IM TIRED…but I love it! I love working hard and seeing the results of all the planning and time spent installing gear. I love freelancing – setting up a room for 2 days, having 3 rehearsal for a 1 hour show. Then it all gets struck in less then 4 hours.
But there is nothing like come back to the church on Friday for Band of Brothers. Man the band rocked the house! The guys that spoke were powerful! They spoke from their hearts and lives got changed!
I love this church and ministry. I love working here! I enjoy freelancing but those gigs aren’t changing lives…HCC is! God is doing some great things here folks! I hope you are ready for what He is going to do at Aurora…Hudson…Stow….Kent….Around the World! I am so blessed to be apart of it and I hope you are too!
